Some thirty ago I was injured at tae kwon do practice. The kick that connected with my abdomen knocked me down. One week later  it was still painful when I took a deep breath. Being a physician I visited my favorite radiologist at the hospital where my practice was focused. He agreed that a CAT scan of the abdomen was needed and we proceeded to perform the study. The scan showed a 9 x 11 cm hemorrhage in my spleen which had the potential to burst and bleed massively at any moment. The standard of care mandated emergency removal of the spleen. One of my surgeon friends opined that since the injury was already one week old,  we might be able to observe it  with serial scans in  hopes that it would begin to resorb. I called  trauma experts around the country but nobody had any different suggestions to help my situation.

Four weeks and four scans later there had been no change. We switched to performing spleen ultrasounds to limit additional radiation exposure. A friend recommended that I obtain a consultation from Claudette. Feeling I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, I sought out Claudette who started me on a protocol of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Slowly at first the hemorrhage began to shrink. I had been cautioned that it might start shrinking but that it would likely calcify leaving me with a lifelong "stone" in my spleen which would leave me vulnerable to splenic rupture in the event of future trauma. That didn't appeal to me and my active life style. 

Long story short, my spleen healed completely and perfectly without calcification. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatment provided me with a cure without surgery. I  have had other imaging studies in the years since I first met Claudette. I remain intact with my spleen appearing normal. I am grateful to Claudette for her skill, professionalism and kindness. She has been an inspiration to me in my professional life which took me to a formal study of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Thanks to her mentorship I brought many of my Western trained physician colleagues to "aha moments" of their own.  before my retirement. TCM works and you couldn't find a finer practitioner than Claudette Baker and her dedicated staff.

Healing in Every Way

I have been a twice-monthly client of Claudette’s since 2010 and believe her wise and warm approach as a provider of acupuncture, Oriental and Functional medicine has bettered my health and life immeasurably.

One example stands out. In 2012-13, I began to experience intermittent, debilitating pain in my knee. I went to an orthopedic specialist, was diagnosed with mono-arthritis, prescribed pain meds and cortisone, and told I would likely need  a knee replacement in 10 years. But Claudette took a different approach. She started me on a treatment regimen of acupuncture and Chinese herbs in combination with dietary changes that resolved the problem within 6 months. I no longer have pain and am nowhere near getting a knee replaced.

Claudette is not anti-western medicine. But under her care, I find I rely on it less while feeling better than ever. Plus, she is such a delightful, positive person to work with! I thoroughly recommend
